Ealing Urgent Care Centre Service Procurement 2016

Following an open and competitive process, a consortium led by Greenbrook Healthcare has been selected as the new provider of the Urgent Care Service at Ealng Hospital.

The consortium comprises Greenbrook Healthcare, London North West Healthcare NHS Trust (who already operate the Ealing Hospital Emergency Department) and the London Central and West Unscheduled Care Collaborative, the current provider of GP out of hours care in the borough .   The consortium will operate Ealing Urgent Care Centre from the end of April 2016.

Ealing Urgent Care Centre is a highly accessible community-based facility providing care for a large population area and is co-located with the hospital Emergency Department (ED) at Ealing Hospital.  In 2014-2015, some 66,000 patients were assessed at the UCC representing about 60% of the patients presenting for urgent and emergency care at the Ealing Hospital site. The UCC operates 24/7 throughout the year.

By procuring a new service to commence at the end of April, the CCG is ensuring that the new service will be fully embedded ahead of planned changes to in-patient paediatric care at Ealing Hospital (as part of Shaping a Healthy Future) in June 2016.  The Greenbrook consortium will work closely with Ealing Hospital and other providers in NW London and the CCG to ensure pathways are clear and that support for young children remains robust during this transition period.

Within Ealing and NW London, the vision is to create an urgent and emergency care system (one system multiple facilities) that is capable of delivering equitable access to the right care first time for the majority of patients through a networked model with services provided along robust pathways 24/7.

A copy of the service specification for the new service is available here.

The specification emphasises the importance of the UCC as an key access point to a fully integrated urgent care network with key interdependencies with general practice, community pharmacists, NHS 111, London Ambulance Service (LAS), the Homeward integrated care service, GP Out of Hours service, GP extended hours hubs and hospital Emergency Centres.
